Gamma Telecom

Gamma Telecom is a fixed line network operator with switches and a fibre backbone.  Gamma is able to use its infrastructure to carry voice traffic nationally within the UK.  Gamma was able to enter the market by buying assets from companies such as Atlantic Telecom, giving Gamma a very low capex cost base.

Gamma currently provides mainly voice services to the resale and carrier market and does not have end user customers directly.  These resellers offer a basket of services to their retail customers. Gamma’s business is focused mainly on voice and narrow band data services.

Gamma relies on regulated interconnect products such as CPS and IA (from BT) to take voice and narrow band data traffic from subscribers connected to BT Wholesale’s copper local loop.  Gamma then uses its own fibre network to backhaul this traffic from the BT serving DLE, to the BT terminating DLE.  Using this combination of BT’s copper local loop, and serving and terminating DLE, allows Gamma to offer an upstream wholesale call product.

Gamma’s business model relies on it being able to connect with BT Wholesale as near as possible to the serving digital local exchange of the consumer connected to BT’s copper local loop.  Because of this Gamma has a large number of direct interconnects with BT at the Single Tandem level. Gamma is currently on track on an investment programme to interconnect to around 600 DLEs
